THE INTEGRITY OF THE DAY

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

This week has been magical.  My brother ‘ MARVELOUS MERV’ HAS DEFIED THE ODDS, at least so far, and is home as an outpatient. That’s it.

A few months ago I told you all that I didn’t win my first contest with The New Quarterly. Well two days ago I got a letter from them telling me that their editors have been following me, as they put it, for at least one year or more. Now they want my work.  You see my friends, that is what I do…. never ever give up.

I promised my friend Bev at the HUB that I would mention World Poetry Day (Discover the True Power of Words).   It’s on March 27/14 from 7 -8:30 p.m. at  The Hub, 4936 Ross St. That’s eight days before our concert at the same location.

Okay, it is time, if only for a moment, to close our eyes and our thoughts …. and rest. Until we drop a tear together gazing past the sun and knowing…we are just fine, I leave you today with a little more…

SERENITY

614703_548952125115391_1284533457_oNikki was my girl for five years. Now I’m pushing 35–I may never have a date again! Yeah Nikki thought she could do better with a 9-5 kinda guy.  You all know what I mean…white picket fence, probably a dog, and then kids! For god’s sake, kids! Really–kids!

THE ESSENCE OF TIME

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

This week has been full of ups and downs, but mostly ups.  I have been playing real drums again plus the electronic ones. ‘ ‘Marvelous Merv’ is fighting. He is pretty ill, but he’s fighting. That’s it.

I have not really been writing, though I was trying. Then I talked with my Michelle. Now I am back and strong, and I am happy to say, I’m writing again. I forgot how much I missed it so me and Chelle are on it, and you can take that to the bank!

Wow, that tired me just spitting this out. Anyway we best close our eyes and our thoughts if only for a moment …..and rest.  Now, until we meet at bowling alley, here is a bit of a laugh with a little bit of …

THE FIRST KISS

FIRST KISS

Alright, it’s on. Elsie Bowerstone, remember folks, she’s almost a grownup–she’s 13. Fidgety Freddie Klump wipes off his shoes and goes over his lines. I wish I could hear him, what a dope.  So, off he goes and we’re  of course, mocking him all the way.  (That was the way you did it  in 1965, if you were 11 or something).

AND THEN IT WAS TIME

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

It has been a long week my friends. My best friend (actually we have called each other brother for 46 years) is in a bad way right now, but I will be there till the end. I will watch over him as he has always watched over me. His name is ‘ MARVELOUS MERV’ and to me he always will be. That’s all.

Now to you my friends, my concert is getting closer: APRIL 4/14 from 7 pm-9 pm.  Anyone, all of you, come to this event if you can.  There are five of us:  two brain injuries, one bi- polar, one beautiful lady who is autistic and blind (she plays percussion, and keeps time like a metronome), and one who is not too nutty yet, but we’re working on him.  SOULFUL NOIZE,  THAT’S US.  That’s all.

Spring is almost upon us, but, if you don’t mind I could use, and I am sure you could also–if only for a moment–to close your eyes and your thoughts…. and let’s just rest.  Well this is goodbye until we see each other in the park. I will leave you with a few words about time.

I KNEW YOU THEN

Friends

We were kids and thought the world would never end. We got older and life got harder. It’s funny though, we laughed and kept going.

”Never stop,” you used to say. We both went and got married, we both picked the wrong woman, go figure.  Now we are old men, and it appears I might be doing the rest of the journey by myself. But don’t you worry, I’ll tell em, I’ll tell them all, when they ask, and they will.

I’ll say…..”Well, I knew you then.”

MAKING SENSE OF IT ALL

HI EVERYONE EVERYWHERE,

If you live in Canada, this past week has been a zinger. Cold weather has captured most of our country.  It will pass by in a couple of days, I am almost sure of that.

On Friday my band, Soulful Noize, played our last show before the concert.  Again the concert is April 4/14 from 7 pm – 9 pm.   Tickets are 15 dollars a person or 30 dollars for the family.  As I have said before, we do everything from Pink Floyd to Moody Blues and much more. If you are near Red Deer that night, come and say hello. We will be playing at The Hub on Ross Street. That is downtown.

Anyhoo, I am still kinda banged-up as I fell again on the ice last Monday.  Sheeesh!

Okay then, it is for sure our time to close our eyes and our thoughts, if only for a minute…..and rest. Until we talk again at the gas station, here is a little poem I wrote for you.

I’M RIGHT HERE

man on groundA man came walking down the street

doing nothing really, just kicking gravel off his feet.

And as he looked down, there was a guy looking at him, with a frown.

He said to the man “When you look at me sir, do you see me as a clown?”

The man who was walking, started talking ” No, just a frown, you will not be getting a crown.

It is too nice a day, so forgive me sir, but I am on my way.”

And as he left, the man sitting on the ground said with a jeer ” Keep walking buddy, I’M RIGHT HERE.”
