A BITTER TASTE OF REALITY

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

I hope this finds you all well. I have had to search in my soul for some happiness today. My brother is still fighting. That’s all.

I have been very tired of late but I’m on it, never fear.  If we don’t take care of ourselves we are in trouble for sure. I am looking soo forward to playing downtown Red Deer on June 6/14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  Ross Street outside in front of the Hub. I am excited. SOULFUL NOIZE, here we go again!

Alright, time to close our eyes and our thoughts…. if only for a moment… and rest. Until, we find each other entwined together in a dream, some words;

STORM’S COMING

black and white 3

It all seemed right for sooo long. And then things changed. Apart from the smell of the wind you’d almost think you were a stranger, in your own world there.  But as fast as the dust blows down an empty street, maybe I was kidding myself. Maybe I was never there, at all.

Dreary, Maybe. Sad, For Sure

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

I hope your week has been memorable. We can’t count on the weather to make us smile; we must always find that in ourselves.

I have been a constant caregiver for my brother Merv, but he got worse on Friday; he is now in the hospital once again. And the harder I and my little army of help try…it is what it is.  That’s all.

On another note, my band played an incredible show for some incredible people in the big beautiful city of Calgary. Thanks for a great time for a great cause: saving sick children… I mean, that was worth sweating for.

Anyway, it is time to close our eyes and our thoughts… if only for a moment….. and rest. Well, until we meet again at Bob’s , here is  something I just need to write…

OLD SOLDIERS MAY PASS THIS WAY AGAIN

6632326-md

Old Frank Tummel stood on a patch of the deserted school yard on a quiet Sunday. This is where Frank would come to pay tribute to his closest friend who has long passed away. They met as kids, became best friends, then became brothers. Frank and his friend, well, they grew up, his friend raised a family,  Frank did not. The war broke out and Frank and his friend joined up. That’s what you did back then. They made it home alright;  Frank was fine but his friend lost an arm.

And life carried on for Frank and his friend, their journeys enriched by the memories just waiting to be told. Frank’s friend got cancer and got real sick too darn fast. When they were little boys they swore an oath:  if one got sick the other would take care him. So Frank comes to that field every Sunday, and if you ask him what he is doing he will smile at you and say, “I am waiting. You see, old soldiers……may pass this way again.”

A DAY OF RELEVANCE

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

What a really fine day we are having today.  I have been very busy with my band. We are gearing up for Calgary–doing a big show at the Arts Hotel.  Very plush. that’s all.  I hope all you ladies everywhere, enjoyed your Sunday. I am writing to beat the band, so to speak. Ok, that;s it until we meet by that weeping willow tree, yes, that’s the one by the creek. So, if only for a moment… close your eyes and your thoughts and….rest. A few words to help you sleep;

I’M JUST WINKINGWindsweptLittle Sally was getting tucked in for the night. Mother always tucked me in, And Sally would say every night, I mean, she was only 6 and she’d whisper ‘MOM, just stay till I fall asleep,ok?’ And Mom always does.  She would lay beside Sally and feel her little eyes drop, and then as she pulled Sally’s blankets , she would get up to leave, Sally always say’s ‘I love you Mom, I ‘m not sleeping, I’m just winking.

A TOUCH OF TOLERANCE

HI EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE,

Hello and welcome, another Sunday, quiet today.  My brother has had a hard few days but I am always there by his side. That’s all.

I am looking forward to our band Soulful Noize playing in Calgary on May 15/14. It will be a great time I’m sure.

We are having great fun with the snow and rain here. It’s snowing! My God, it’s May! Stop! When does the sun and the warm part happen?  Alas, I suppose all we can do is smile, drink in the day and wait.

Okay,  this is our time especially me, sooo, if only for a moment, close your eyes and your thoughts and…rest. That’s it until we meet again down at the old sweet shop.  You know, the one by Charlie’s old truck. Today I leave you with these words..

I SAW YOU LOOKING

images (1)

There, you see, I was looking in the store window. I had not wanted to look at that painting, but the wind and leaves and all that commotion pushed me closer to that pane of glass. I did not want to be drawn to that picture. It was a face, nothing more. Odd though, it seemed enough. And as I stood feeling, oh I don’t know…enriched, this kid runs by me and throws leaves in my face. And with the angst of a stubborn little mule, he brays at me, “Ha, I saw you looking.” What a day.
